Wriddhiman Saha made his debut for Bengal in 2007-08 and soon established himself as their first choice wicket-keeper batsman. Saha is a stable wicket keeper who maintains his balance and collects the ball at a good height. As a batsman, he oscillates between the first and fifth gears with ease.
In 2010, Saha was called up for the home Test series against South Africa and was drafted into the eleven for the first Test as a batsman when Rohit Sharma injured himself. That Test at Nagpur was dominated by Dale Steyn and in the second innings, when India were following on, Saha played a fighting knock to delay the inevitable. Later that year, he played three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against New Zealand when Dhoni was rested.
Saha remains Dhoni’s understudy in overseas tours, where India carry a backup wicketkeeper. In 2012, he played the fourth Test at Adelaide (following Dhoni’s one-Test ban) where he kept wickets for India for the first time. Saha played for the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings in the past. In 2014, he was picked by the Kings XI Punjab.
